How to Spend More Time With Your Family
By Lorraine | July 13, 2008
A coaching call with a new client prompted me to write this week’s blog. Mary admitted with great sadness that it was her family that suffered the most from her being so consumed by her business.
When you make your family a priority, you will find the time to spend with them.
You really do need to get a grip on your priorities and take action.

Overcoming People Problems In Your Business
By Lorraine | July 6, 2008
The no. 1 asset in any business is it’s people, yet when work with my clients generally that is their no.1 headache, apart from not having enough time and money!
Mary and Ken own a plumbing business employing 9 other people. They used to always complain about how irresponsible their ‘boys’ were. Not filling in the correct paperwork which caused many hours to be wasted by the two office girls and issues on-site due to basic carelessness.![]()

During our coaching sessions it was obvious that both Mary and Ken were ‘too busy’ that they overlooked the basics with their people…they did not communicate with them, hold regular meetings to discuss what was working well and how they can improve, there was no recognition and reward program and because of their lack of systems (the knowledge was in the heads of Mary and Ken), the staff were left to their own devices. There was no on-going training. The ‘boys’ were working in a disorganised and chaotic environment and they were following the lead of the owners.
By showing them how to free up their time and teach them valuable leadership skills, they were able to turn their business around with systems everyone could follow and spend regular time each week developing their team.
If business is doing well and you’re retaining your people, congratulations. If it’s not and you have people problems, look in the mirror then take the necessary action to get back on track.

Focus On Your Strengths, Delegate Your Weaknesses
By Lorraine | June 29, 2008
To gain more of what you want out of life you need to use your strengths and delegate your weaknesses.
One of my clients runs a mail-order business and prior to being coached by me he used to spend 90% of his time working in his business being involved in every aspect from the bookkeeping to fulfilling orders.
Â
His strengths lay in the development of his business and his people.
His time was being chewed up by activities he could pay other people to handle who would carry out these tasks in a fraction of the time he took.
Don’t waste another moment being involved in your areas of weakness, find other people to do that and you focus on your strengths. You’ll be happier and you’ll make more money.
