Anyhow, what I like about Charmaine is she is very prompt, responds to email quickly and gets the work done. She keeps me in the loop. Both my VAs are like that and it gives me great confidence and trust in them.

Both of these ladies are in their own business and understand that if you don’t provide a reliable service, they won’t getting my business.

Unfortunately, that’s not the norm in small business. Most people over promise and barely deliver.

Beasley had to have the long hair around his ears trimmed right back, that’s why he looks a bit weird (he’s on the left).

I’ve considered purchasing a special dog grooming kit to do it myself and was reminded why I only ‘considered’ it and had taken no action.

Our dog groomer is so knowledgeable, it’s like taking the boys for a check up with the vet and the haircuts are a bonus. She has years of experience with animals and provides far more than the actual haircut. Suzie will let me know if either of them has any particular symptoms or potential problems that need to be addressed.

On one visit she said that one of Beasley’s muscles was extremely tight and it hindered his mobility. It’s not something obvious to the untrained person but it could have caused other problems for him down the track.

Anyhow the point I’m trying to make is it wasn’t worthwhile for me to purchase the grooming kit and do it myself. Going to the groomer to me is an investment in the well-being of my boys.

How often do you try and do everything yourself so that you save money? Don’t get me wrong here, it’s good to save money, but be careful where and when you do it.

I know many business owners will spend money on everything else, except themselves.

What always amazes me is how people can stay in business for many years, continually doing what they’ve always done… working hard, but having no life and in many instances, not much money! They are not happy, healthy or wealthy.

To top it off, many people had invested thousands of dollars in purchasing existing businesses that were barely providing a living, not a lifestyle.

I ask you, what’s the point? If you’re going to be in business, you want to make lots of money and enjoy regular time off.

The common denominator here was they are always ‘too busy’ working on the wrong things. They needed to work harder on themselves than anything else.

Andre the coach knows how to communicate with the boys and treats them with respect.

What I am also impressed with is how they have to portray a professional image.

Each week the team have to wear not only their correct playing uniform, but also they all have to attend the game in black pants, tops and runners. The coach and his assistants all look smart and professional, they set the example.

This is not the standard look for other teams in the competition. Do you think the boys take pride in their appearance and feel more professional? You bet they do. They look and feel like winners before they even step onto the field.

Your appearance is important, primarily for yourself to feel good and in your business, it can have a positive or negative affect on whether or not you get business.

To do this I had to invest the time and money to get the results. On my own, it wasn’t enough.

Although I used to work in the fitness industry (many years ago) and do train regularly, I wasn’t achieving what I really wanted. With Marc’s coaching, it’s made a big difference (yes, that’s me over there!)

What a difference having the right coach makes.

Last year the coach lacked people skills and basically barked commands at the boys… no wonder they didn’t listen and many left the team.

This year is the complete opposite. Trent is playing at a new club and the coach is encouraging, fair and talks to these boys with respect. The contrast is like chalk and cheese. The coach has attracted top players who have been state representatives who have joined. I wonder why?

How often in business do you see poor leaders? The business owner or manager lacks what it takes to lead and coach his or her people. Then they complain their team doesn’t perform and often leave.

Having the right person leading makes all the difference. There’s plenty of lessons to be learned in this week’s article which will ensure you have a highly productive team… providing you are a good coach.

Anyhow what is really interesting is that I attended the National Speakers Association of Australia conference recently.

One of the keynote speakers was Rowena Szeszeran-McEvoy, one of the most successful business women in Australia. A hugely inspiring woman who is so successful that she is listed on the ‘rich list’s’. Her business which is co-owned with her husband Kerry is The Australian Institute of Fitness.

Anyhow Rowena showed a video clip of her in a figurebuilding competition. Guess what? There were 3 other contestants registered and only Rowena showed up on the day so she won!

So what’s the moral to the story? All you need to do is show up.

One of my clients was telling me she was going to rush interstate to interview a possible applicant to run her interstate operation.  With all the things on her plate, this was just another added pressure.

I said why did she have to physically do that as this was a preliminary interview?  By using ‘Skype’ and a webcam she could start the process. If the person seemed suitable they could then fly down and see her… after all who was providing the opportunity to make money?

There’s more than one way to have a productive meeting.
