Who’s managing in your business?

By Lorraine | April 15, 2008

A common challenge shared with many of my clients is being the role of the leader and not just being ‘a good boss’.  Sure getting along with your team is important however that’s not enough for effective leadership.

It’s very important that someone is the leader in your business and that staff know exactly who they can turn to.  That person needs the skills to be a good leader…it’s not something that comes naturally to many people.

Unfortunately many people want to do well by their employer, but because of poor management they become disheartened and leave.

As many of you know, my daughter is overseas and had a job lined up in the aviation industry before she left.  It is run by an entrepreneur, a very likable person but hasn’t got a clue how to run a business.

Since the first day she arrived at the new job, the signs of disorganisation showed up really clearly.

It’s been nearly 4 months and it’s gone from bad to worse.  ’Management’ has no idea what they are doing.  The wrong people are in the wrong jobs and there have been so many instances where they have caused an inordinate amount of money to be wasted.

This has caused much stress and chaos to reign on the staff.  They’ve had many people leave…an obvious sign that there a major problems in the company.

Interestingly enough the company is going down the gurgler really fast and they are looking to do a merger.

According to my daughter, it was so obvious what the problems were and still are and how easy it is to turn the company around.   Just a pity that management has no idea.
