What Is a Teleseminar and How Does It Work?
By Lorraine | August 21, 2006
A teleseminar is a seminar that is held via telephone with people dialling in from all over the world in many cases.
You dial in to a given number, follow the prompts and enter the pin number and # when asked to. The pin number is what gives you access to that particular teleseminar at a given time.
After that you are added to a group of people who have also dialled in, to listen to a key note speaker. You will be given instructions on how to mute the call so that the speakers aren’t ‘taken over’ by background noise such as people coughing, drinking, talking to others, answering calls, typing on keyboards.
At the end of the session listeners will be invited to unmute if they wish to ask questions. The entire call is recorded so if you do not wish to be recorded, it’s best you don’t speak.
Most teleseminars are worked with US based numbers, so to keep the costs low for people in Australia, it’s best if you purchase a $10 phonecard from the newsagents or post office and then follow the instructions on the phone card. Each card will allow up to around 700 minutes useage and is ‘live’ for a 3 month period so you can usually participate in several teleseminars or other overseas calls during that period of time.
The beauty of teleseminars is that you don’t have to leave your home or your office to participate, no travel or accommodation time or expenditure.
PREPARING FOR THE TELESEMINAR:
- Disconnect other phone lines or silence your mobile to avoid distractions of other calls.
- Ensure you have water and something to eat.
- Note paper and pen so you can jot down information shared during the teleseminar, and also for prompts on any questions you want to ask.
- Close your office door if necessary to ensure that no-one interrupts you.
THE FINAL WORD
A teleseminar is a time and cost efficient way to learn and develop yourself without leaving your home or office.
The key to your learning is you, so make sure any ideas you pick up from the call you write down immediately and then plan in your diary to take the necessary action.
